Are You Taking Care of Your Commercial Refrigeration Systems?

Feb 08, 2018

The key to running efficient commercial refrigeration systems is maintenance. Refrigeration maintenance can extend the life of your equipment by several years and save you money in the short term on electrical consumption. Let’s take a look at some of the basic maintenance tasks you can perform yourself between professional cleaning service calls.

Refrigeration maintenance is critical, especially when it comes to Walk-In Coolers, Freezers and Line Coolers. In simple terms, a refrigeration system needs to expel heat. The most common way of expelling heat is through an air cooled condenser coil which draws airs through the coil.

If you have ever cleaned behind your fridge at home, you will likely have seen dust and debris collected on the grate covering the condenser coil. Failure to clean condenser coils on a regular basis increases electrical consumption and can lead to component failure like burnt wiring, a failed condenser fan motor, or a failed compressor.

Looking After Your System

Thorough maintenance significantly extends the life of your refrigeration systems, so use our tips to help you maintain your system between scheduled maintenance visits from an Artcool Systems Technician.

  1. Visually inspect the condenser coil cover to ensure that it is clear of any debris and dust or of any obstructions which may impede function.
  2. Check door seals for rips or tears. Make sure the door seal actually seals well on all four sides. Gently clean gaskets with a mild soapy water to remove any food debris.
  3. Don’t wait until there’s a breakdown. With a good servicing contract in place, you’ll only need to make one quick phone call in the event of a problem.
